Project Manager, Carmen Weaver, had the opportunity to share the Memphis TLINC project at the AECT International Convention in Orlando, Florida. Ms. Weaver presented background on the importance of teacher mentoring for retention and then discussed the current efforts at the University of Memphis. Many people from different parts of the country and with many different backgrounds attended the session. Many attendees were very interested in the process of obtaining mentors for student teachers and actively facilitating online discussions. While the Memphis TLINC project is ongoing, Ms. Weaver hopes to have more data to support her observations at next year’s convention.
Memphis TLINC to be presented at AECT International Convention
October 22, 2008Carmen Weaver will be presenting the Memphis TLINC project at the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention. During Ms. Weaver’s session, attendees will learn how the University of Memphis site has implemented TLINC and tailored it to its needs. Key challenges and successes the Memphis project has faced will be reviewed. She will also provide guidance to other districts seeking to use emerging technologies to build and support learning communities of novice and expert teachers to aid in teacher retention and accelerated proficiency of new teachers.
AECT is a professional association of thousands of educators and others whose activities are directed towards improving instruction through technology. This year’s convention will be held November 4 – 8 in Orlando, Florida.
